Well, my guitar player called me last night to let me know that an orange transparent showed up at his store yesterday. I am going to look at it today. :hyper:
He says it's a 2001 Fender, looks brand new, has a tort guard, rosewood neck, but it's a P-J.
Will I be able to get a genuine P sound out of this? Are the P pups in the same position as a regular P? I guess I'll find out later this afternoon. Can't wait!!:bassist:

I finally got the DSL, so here's a few pics! :hyper:

It's a 2001 MIA Fender Precision with a J pup. At least the headstock says Precision. I'm guessing that it would be a P neck,
but not sure. Anyways, it feels good to me whichever one it is. So far, I've used it mostly with the P pup only and once in
awhile add a touch of J. When I need J, I just use my Fender 2005 MIA JazzV

So there's this thread for Orange Sunset Basses but apparently there's not much news since December 2006?!?!

Well, a little reviving won't harm.

I recently gave in to some very long lasted gas and aquired this MIA JB (Z2....) in Orange Sunset. I'm a happy bassist...

Let's try to get this thread going again people!!!!

(the Ice Blue one is a MIM FL)

Yeah, dead photo links from 2006 are always fun.

But in the spirit of [cough!] positive input, one item that's overlooked with the Fender Sunset Orange color scheme is that it is a perfect match for the orange in the then-current tortoiseshell pickguard.

This was why it was the flagship color scheme in ad and website graphics for several Fender models, including the late HRPB (which is the model that one poster in this thread was trying to identify).

I got a 2001 "American" Series HRPB (identical to the one a few posts above) for $499 at GC when the HRPBs were closed out. It has a beautiful Sunset Orange finish over an exceptionally nice two-piece ash body, with the matching tortoiseshell guard and rosewood fingerboard. The neck finish is unfortunately the self-destructing one typical of that period of FMIC production. :hmm:

It's a lovely bass, but the color's a little gaudy to gig with.

I was playing this bass yesterday. It's quite nice, though it has the problems attendant to any passive P/J rig. Fender made a special set of P/J pickups for the HRPB that were somewhat more output-balanced and were never used on any other instrument.
