I love this song. It was the first song I learned to play. We play it at every practice as a warm-up number. The only difference is we speed it up ALOT!!!!! We have a great time jamming to it. The chord idea in the chorus sounds like a good idea.(i will have to learn how to play those). I play the main riff on the E string instead of the A string. Keeps me off the G string at the change. Makes it sound a little fuller to me. JMO.

We do the same thing - its a good song to warm up to and set levels. It's basically a song we can always get right even if we haven't practiced together for a while

Do you play with a pick? I play finger style and don't know how to pluck/strum chords. haven't got that far yet.

I prefer my fingers, I just drag my fingers from the highest (in pitch, In this case: D) to the next string in this case A. after a time I have been able to play with my fingers as you would a pick via upward strokes rather than downward.

I play fingerstyle as well, and strumming like Nappa described works well, but rather what I do is pluck the chords above by simultaneously using my thumb on the A and my index on the D and pulling upwards lightly, letting the strings slide off the pads of my fingers. If it were a more complex chord, say a R-5-8 or something on the E A and D, I would use my thumb on the E, index on A, and middle finger on D and do the same thing. I don't know if it's the "right" thing to do, but I've just always done it that way.

Yeah, chords are fun on the bass. The way I do the is use my index and middle finger like a pick and hit the strings in a downward motion. Gives a nice percussive feel that cuts through nicely.
