I used to play with heavier strings, but after recovering from tendinitis I am learning to love super light gauges. For context: Thomastik jazz rounds, and Daddario ProSteels 40-100 for D standard is what I use on my main players.

I have this one 75 AVRI Jazz that really does not like nickel string (Jazz Rounds are wasted on it), while it loves stainless steels. RS66 were a great fit, but no thanks: they die way too quick and I found one too many dead string out of the package. Daddario ProSteels even better fit, but in 40-95 (E standard) is a bit more tension then I’d like and looks like I can’t find 35-90 anywhere in Europe.

Any advice on where to look next?

Do you have an online resource where you can buy single strings? I'd go that route, as I'm not sure how many 35-90 or 30-90 options are out there in packaged form.

How about DR Hi Beams (stainless steel roundwound on a round core)? Being round-core, they're more flexible than anything by D'Addario (hex core). And they do come in 30-50-70-90 and 40-60-75-95.

Unfortunately I don’t know of any online retailer well stocked with single strings…

DR hi-beams seams like a viable option, can’t find them in 30-90 so I ordered 40-95. Let’s see if the roundcore does the trick! Will report back once I get them…

P.S. I was going through DR sound samples and my hear seams to prefer lo-riders, but being hexcore I guess tensionwise they’ll be in a similar ballpark as prosteels?

Pro steels and Lo Riders are pretty similar as far as stiffness. I’ve used both many, many times. Prosteels may be a hair more flexible.

I would suggest individual strings. Another option is to buy a six string set. I have an instrument strung .028 - .075! Use the 4 lightest strings from a six set. Works great

FretNation.com. Singles, no problem. You might try Rotosound funkmasters.

I’ve been rolling my own sets, using the A-G strings from standard sets and adding a single .030 or so, tuned to E-G. It’s a fine line between super light and too dang light and loose. But single .030’s run about $4 and you can experiment with your used strings for the rest.

Basically, shifting the strings over one place, adding a C string and tuning to E.

This works great with sets you might have used but felt too heavy plus the single C.

FWIW, I haven’t run into many issues with running the smaller strings in the larger nut slots. If anything, this has helped me get the action lower. Once in a while, an open string will rattle, but a good break angle helps, or a bit of shrink tubing slipped over the string and settled on the nut. I’m doing too much experimenting to keep cutting nuts.

Jason at FretNation was a huge help in my quest for the lightest usable set up.

Payson strings also sells individual strings and has helped me hit the sweet spot at around .090 to .032.

Elites Stadium are available 30-90 and 35-95.
