Super low tuning....

Talk to Jauqo III-X about this... He has a subcontra bass that is tuned C#, F#, B, E.

I'm sure he can answer any questions you may have about pickups, amps, etc.

I have yet to hear what this monster of his sounds like but man it's killing me just thinking of the possibilities.

Yeah that was my next question... I assume that would have to be at least an 18" speaker to go that low, with ALOT of power to reproduce that cleanly. When you say make sure the amp can handle it, your just talking about wattage right?

The amp/speaker combination has to be powerful enough and with enough range to produce the wave cleanly at the desired volume. Generally amps can handle 40Hz with no problem (the F# below low B is 46Hz); it's getting the speaker to produce a good sound that low.

Also, there are physiological aspects to consider. Ultra-low frequencies at high amplitude make people physically ill, not to mention they are more damaging to your hearing than high frequencies. We have the technology to generate good low sounds, but commercial amp makers generally design their amps and enclosures to have weakened response at those levels to prevent harm to both the speaker and listeners.
