Super low tuning....

I just took a look at the conklin website. OMG! I am totally gassing for a 7-string now... my wife is gonna kill me. Such beautiful instruments, I'm not a tapper though... would a 7 be over the top? Nahhh....:D

Apparently, a C0 (below E on a standard bass) is about 16 Hz which is commonly though of as right at the threshold of hearing. I honestly don't know because my speakers can't reproduce the sound :p. The F# and so on are probably below what people can hear, but like you said, you can probably feel it lol :bassist:

The warwick 'Dark Lord' is a four string tuned F#, B, E A. I wanna know how that sounds...

I recently read a Dark Lord review in a bass mag and while they were impressed with the bass (F# B E A from the factory), they mentioned that it only sounded any good through super high end and super powerful heads/cabs. I could almost guarantee that at least one 18" speaker would be needed to hit the required lows.

Low C#, over an octave lower than a low E on a bass, can be heard by humans. I can hear it, but there are people that can't. C# is the next string lower after F#. TB's own Jaquo was the first person to do the whole C# thing.

I've tuned a 4 string to BEAD, but has anyone tuned a 6 string to F#BEADG?:eyebrow: Just wondering....

I've got one of those. I don't have amps that cope, though.

Considering that the speakers that can really give some gut to that kind of freq's are stacked 18" or more, at least 3 of them on top of eachother, or possibly the Bag End ELF...all very costly and somewhat bulky...there is no use for the F# - note.

There is, however a lot of use for the F# string, to play low notes up the neck. That enhances your abilities to go up or down the register in notime.

I know Jaquo has a different opinion on the useabiltiy of low notes, but remember that he is in the pro league that can afford the speakers...must afford, since he's making it his feature.
