Surprised by a Squier......

I find it pretty remarkable that instead of hunting for the 1 in 100, assembler #1 built, old wood stock that fell behind the rack for 10 years, built on a Wednesday, all the stars aligned, budget bass.... it's more like just make sure it's not the 1 in 100 that plays like plywood.

I very recently returned a Traveler acoustic bass as the preamp was faulty. The store (GAK in the UK) couldn’t repair and we’re expecting quite a wait on a replacement system, so offered store credit (would have refunded if I had the original payment card, but I moved banks).

Anyway, I opted to purchase a Squier Affinity Precision, the P/J model, Olympic white with a black guard and an all maple neck. To go with it I got the EMG Geezer Butler P/J set to drop in it.

The stock pups actually sounded very decent and I will definitely drop them in a parts bass, but those Geezers really sound great. The bass itself is a gem that looks, feels and plays like something from a far higher price point. The tuners were the biggest surprise, operating very smoothly and holding tuning very well throughout 3 hour jam sessions, something I hadn’t seen on a Squier bass before.

I'm curious about the Squier neck stability. If they have a nicely seasoned lumber pile, it should be good. But I've seen a lot of wood on cheaper electric guitars that still think they're trees...

Love to hear the squier gang's input on how their stuff had held up over a few years in places with 4 seasons.
I have a squire affinity from 2000 that has the lowest action I've ever seen! Neck is straight and flat,I replaced the pots and bridge pickup and it's a great player.

I have a 1997 Squier Musicmaster Bass, 2002&2006&2007&2020 Bronco Basses - all necks are fine. They even darken over the years ;-) (although I am fine with their pale maple necks...)

Yeah, one of my favorite things to do is walk in Guitar Center, grab the cheapest used Squier Strat off the wall, plug into a decent app, and play nice sounding stuff :) never fails that 2 or 3 people will stop by and say how nice it sounds while being surprised it's a Squier. They nail the "classic" strat sounds.
Yes, I have an affinity Squier
