Sushi question - UA into Finally V2

For those that have used these together, is it too much tube tone? I picked up a Finally V2 and I like it as my end of chain DI. I would like to maybe try a solid AU7 tube pre for tone shaping, and the UA is interesting. Anyone doing this today?

Currently, I am running Octocomp - Carina - SV Pre - RFE - Finally.

Thinking of replacing the SV Pre with an Sushi UA

How much is too much tube?

If you run the UA with tonestack off it will be a lot of gain. With the tonestack on it sounds great. I had that combo for a while. I've just gotten to where I really don't like the Fender tonestack.
Is there an Ampeg equivalent in the Sushi or another line that you would recommend? I can use either but I do like some Ampeg mids.

Forgive me as I am a relative pedal beginner.

Sushi doesn't have one right now. There is the Slampegg Bee, but that is an Ampeg B-15 with just a 2-band Low/High tone stack. He is supposedly working on an SVT pedal, but who knows when it will come out.

Broughton makes a SVT Preamp that is compact and sounds really good, but it can be a little noisy. The next closest are the Origin Effects SV and Ampeg SGT-DI, but those are bigger more involved and more expensive pedals.

Sushi just came out with the PMLE, which has a GK inspired tone stack with some nice mids, but they are all sold. That is what I went with. I got a SVT 3-Pro to satisfy my Ampeg sound thing. I pull it out and use it when I am wanting that kind of EQ and sound.

One of my favorite setups is a UA (HW version 2 with a 12ax7) into Finally v1 (mine has a Jensen transformer + 12ax7) I set the UA for a round fat tone and the Finally to taste depending on how much warmth is desired as it can range from crystal clean to robust and squishy saturation. I will also tap in other @Sushi Box FX preamps as needed.

You might want to wait until @Sushi Box FX gets the SBVT worked out and available again, he has done extensive work redeveloping this offering, I'm not an Ampeg fan but even I am interested. You might see one of the previous versions of the SBVT or Slampegg Bee for sale used, I have a mini tube version of a Slampegg Bee that has that delicious tone. Until then IMHO the Underground Accelerator is most a worthy stand in as it can get a similar snarl.

I think you will be plenty fine with the UA upstream the svpre with the UA tone stack disabled, max the master on the svpre.

When you look at what the topologies are, introducing the svpre is adding a jfet gain stage that you will just minimize as much as possible by maxing the master.

As advised, multiple tone stacks fighting each other is what you should avoid. Having an extra jfet gain stage at unity shouldnt hurt much.

Thank you. I have the Broughton SV-pre, but another tube in the chain is appealing

The Broughton SV Pre is a JFET circuit, it does not have a tube. JFETs do respond & sound very close to a tube so they are often used in overdrives and preamps but there is a little bit of that glass tube magic missing.

My setup is the older Particle Accelerator which became the UA into the Neptunium. You can definitely do waht you are thinking. But my only beef with the PA and the UA demos is that it's bass boost is not what I want in a bass. So for me the Neptunium bass EQ helps in that. I haven tried the PA V2 however.

Can I get a point of clarification on this. Are we talking about any pedal with an EQ into another with an EQ being problematic (and that is what I think is being said). Or is the issue amplified (no pun intended) when one uses pedals with different tone stacks (Baxandall > Fender ... and whatever else might be out there.)

I have a UA on my board (EQ off) I like what it does. No idea how it interacts with the Finally, but it works with the Messenger Jr. I feed a couple other preamps into it, although I will admit to having struggled to get the magical clean tone with the SV-Pre I hear others can achieve. I am positive it is user error.

Depends

Both set as a preamp or both set to drive at the same time would be redundant but one of each would be perfect, if you like the UA as a drive. If not, I’d try something else.

I use exactly that setup, UA into finally V2 on one side of my stereo board, I'm very happy with the sound.
I think because the preamps are essentially the same they work well together, and the finally is clean enough to complement pretty much anything before it.

Well, as a quick run, it was pretty fun. I seem to like the UA without the EQ on. It really woke up my filter. The NP at the end of the chain is just phenomenal so the EQ on that seems to serve what I need however, I tried the UA with the eq on and got a little more sparkle out of the filter, but it definitely does not do the Ampeg thing You cannot scoop out the mids. More to follow. But the NP is omg
