My main rig is a SVT 3 and 4 x 10 HLF. I got it because it's easier to move than my all tube SVT and 8 x 10. I used the SVT 3 for quite a while, and was pretty disappointed with it. Then, I read some posts here on the forum about how to get a good sound from one of these. I was doing everything wrong!
The "secret" is in adjusting the master, the gain, and the tube gain. I usually keep the tone controls about the same as I did on my "real" SVT. I usually have the equalizer flat. I'm playing blues, and it's not an extremely loud band. But, I do need to crank this this thing up. I usually do not go into the PA in the bars I play. Also, the volume control on the equalizer will boost the volume quite a bit, if you need it.
I usually play a Fender Jazz with stainless round wounds. I've been getting a lot of compliments on my tone.
