svt-4 pro rack case

ok i recently got an ampeg avt-4 pro and i think a lot of people on here have one so i'd ask some advice, i have heard from some people that it isn't a good idea to rackmount it because it will overheat, i tried to do it anyway with an skb case and it didn't fit very well and after i played it for about 20 minutes it started to get really hot, anyone have any recommendations on a rack case for this head that would give it enough room to breathe

Where are your amps vent holes located? (side, back, top, front?)
Is your rack case (or other rack gear) somehow blocking these vents?
How much (air-space) is there between these vent holes and any obstructions?

Some people drill vent holes in their rack cases (and/or add an aftermarket-external fan) for better air flow.
Does this seem to be an option with your amp and rack case combination?

Some rack cases do offer more internal cooling space than others. (the older SKB roto-racks for one example)

I have never heard of anyone blowing a svt4 because they rackmounted it. In fact I had one for two years in a rack case since the first day.

I rehearsed with if for many hours a week plus many gigs and never had a single problem with it.

I wouldn't worry about that to much.

Drilling holes on the side of your rack case is getting a little parnaoid.

I bought a bigger rack than what I needed for air flow. I've had my 4PRO for about 2 or 3 years and haven't had any problems with it yet (knock on wood). This is how my rack is set up:

Power Conditioner
Tuner
Compressor
Drawer
2 Blank Spaces
Ampeg SVT4PRO

I'd try a Road Ready case for your 4PRO. Mine fits perfectly. Enjoy rockin on your new head.

the amps vent holes are on the sides. the rack case is tightly covering them. it's a snug fit. the sides of the case felt like the plastic was about to melt. there is no air space. i guess drilling some holes or cutting a big chunk out of the case on the sides is an option, but i haven't bought this case officially yet so there is still time to say i don't want it and get a different brand that has more space on the sides. that's why i was askin' about it

Had mine in a TKL rack case, and cutting out the plastic underneath the left-side handle (as you're looking at the amp) lined up just about perfectly with the cooling fan. I didn't worry too much about the other side because it was pushing a lot of air out of the fan.

Plastic-melting hot is a bad thing, but they will get pretty warm by the end of the night.
