SVT CL trade for Ric??

In the 80's, I was a full endorser of SWR. Before that, I played full tube SVT's.

Also, just for fun, I collect amps. Trace tube amps (used to work for them), SA200's (have two of them), old Marshall Majors....etc. Then, there is competitor product that I respect and enjoy playing through once in a while.

I also have friends at these companies: Aguilar, EA, Ampeg (yes, still). Lastly, to me, amps are "application specific". If I had to do a real, organic blues gig, I'd take a P Bass with flats, thumping through a tube amp.

Oh yeah....and, did I mention I love amps? :D

+1000. I don't own any Genz-Benz gear (yet), but, as an amp fetishist myself, I can't imagine a more confidence-inspiring response than this.

that's some pretty good input. ...thanks. When I do play through a tube amp, it is usually the SA200. If I'm playing the SS, it is my affiliate brand.

This bassist with the Ric is in a band that is opening up for Shadows Fall and Korn in a few weeks. He has one SVT now....would like a second....for that show especially.

Sounds like you got a good deal. But could you get it again and again...? U.S. SVT CL(s) seems to be commanding a better price than 8Franklin, just about everywhere I look. I only say this cuz I have a '92 in excellent shape, new tubes/no nicks that I'm thinking of burning for an EA Micro 300/Whizzy 10/+backpack. I'm visiting from the DB side...

$800 is a decent deal for a SLM SVT Classic in good condition but it's not at all uncommon. I see 'em on ebay. I'm not knocking the amp - I think it's great - certainly one of the best. But a Rick bass? Forget it. A Rick costs $2000 easy. Go for the Rick in a NY minute.

I say get the Ric.

Last November, I traded a 2000 or so SLM CL and 810E cabinet straight up for a new MM Stingray 4HH Vintage burst with a maple neck. The Ampeg stack was in the music room taking up room as I didn't get it out that often (size+weight). It was just overkill for most of my current gig situations.

The SVT and cabinet had a couple of minor Tolex nicks, but it probably had less than 100 hours on it.

I'm getting much more use out the Ray and loving it! It has taken the lead as my main gigging bass. :)

Duh ... no brainer ... what's there to discuss?
I can't believe there's any back and forth on this.
If the Rick is in good condition, trade for it.
It's worth 2-3 times the SVT CL.

I haven't read through this thread yet, but I was sold at "Montezuma Brown". I would KILL for that bass. It's a lot easier to find another USA SVTCL than it is to find that particular Ric.... lucky!
