SVT on a budget

The BDDI is a great unit, but will be limiting tone wise. The unit scoops the midrange of your bass tone and the only way to increase the mids is too decrease the highs and the lows.

Anyway, the BDDI really does not capture the REAL Tube Growl of an SVT. It is close, though, but the BDDI's drive knob gives the tone a light overdriven-fuzz-tinged-growl - probably the best way to describe it. The real SVT gives that woody tube growl with no hint of fuzzy distortion.

In a nut shell, if you want more control of your tone, get an Ampeg Amp Head. If you like the tone of the BDDI and feel it can do whatever you desire, then go for it and have fun!

So how about just boosting the mids on your bass and/or head to make up for the mid-scoop on the BDDI?

That's funny! The easiest solution is sometimes the hardest to come up with! That would compensate for the tone loss.
