Back in the mid-70's, when I was in college (U of MD- go Terps!) I gigged with an SVT and 2 8x10 cabs. Kept that beast in the closet in my dorm room. I lived in a "quad" complex, essentially a rectangle of dorms - 2 four story dorms on each long side, 1 eight story dorm on each short side. My room faced into the quad and was on the first floor (thank goodness!).
Anyhoo - we had a LOT of ex-pat NJ students (apparently Rutgers sucked back then) who would often put their little dorm stereo speakers in their windows and incessantly play records by this new Springsteen (sp?
) guy from their home state. To this day I bristle a bit at the mere mention of his name.
Well, roomie and I got pretty fed up with this so one day we decided to address the situation with a grand gesture. We rolled my SVT up to our window and plugged in his turntable. We the played the ringing alarm clocks from Pink Floyd "Dark Side of The Moon" (not a big fan of them, either) CRANKED through my amp. It was hella loud and reverberated off the brick walls of the dorms so you couldn't pinpoint the source. We had, for a brief time, respite from BRUUUUCE! Like the old poster of the mouse flipping off the eagle swooping down on him. Ahhh, good old college days!
