SVT/ TUBE GURU'S NEEDED!!!

I am about to change the tubes in my svt classic. I have been trying to decide between these three:

Genalex Gold Lion Kt88

Tung Sol Reissue 6550

SED "Winged C" 6550

I am completely torn. Please give me your expert opinions and why I should go with it, or why I shouldn't get any of these.

Don't know you'd go far wrong with any of those sextets.
I got Bob @ eurotubes to match me a set of JJ's & they worked well.

I'm curious about a matched OCTET for my 400.

WInged C are the Svetlana tubes. VERY punchy. I had those in my DB728. I changed those out to JJ ( Teslavek ) KT88's in blue stained glass and the sound had more midrange punch, but would distort just a little sooner. like an angrier 6550.

comparing them to my NOS GE 6550A's, my favorite 6550 RI tube is a valve art KT100. the gold lions were very good but felt a little 'mushy' to me. i haven't had great luck with the winged C's (other have), but i've had many of them get noisey and/or unstable. that said, surprisingly even the original Sovtek's in my '07 SVT-VR have been quite spectacular in both tone and reliability, and are still going strong.

Quality control on all of these is a little iffy. I'd contact Bob at EuroTubes, and tell him what you want to achieve, then buy what he tells you to. Were it one of your choices, I'd have suggested JJs. Since it wasn't, I'd take my chances with the Winged Cs. When you get a good one, they're really nice.

I always liked the sovtek 6550's. Best bang for the buck, sound great in an svt and very reliable.

Winged 6550 and JJ's in the preamp stage have had excellent results for me.
Punchy,tubey goodness.

Is this the jj tube you were telling me about? Because what you described is exactly what I'm going for. But as far as the distortion goes, how hot are your tubes biased, and will that shorten the life of the tubes drastically?

I used JJ's in my Mesa 400+ and thought they sounded fine. I still have a few 12AX7's around here. Bob was good to deal with.

The Gold Lion/Genelex tubes are on my radar these days. You'll pay a premium for them, and a few of my friends who are running tube hi-fi gear LOVE them, and they're engineers not prone to magic. They are New Sensor made, so they're coming out of the same plant at the EH, modern Tung-Sol, etc., but you probably already know that.

I looked at picking up a few of the preamp GL's and decided for the 45$ per tube, I could just find good quality vintage tubes that probably would paddle them...
