SVT VR - Won't come off standby

Hello all,

I'm having an issue with my MIV Ampeg SVT VR. The amp will not come off standby. I've done some research and some folks on other threads mentioned this will happen if the voltage to the amp is not high enough...that is not the case as I have made the fix on this amp to not perform that function. When looking at the power tubes, I noticed minimal glow...would dying/dead power tubes cause this to happen? I've had the amp for about 5 years now and it has been ridden pretty hard...any other ideas where to look prior to taking to a tech?

Thanks

It wouldn't hurt to double check your bypass of the AC relay, but then again, I think the amp won't turn on at all if it gets disconnected. In my experience sometimes SVTs do this, you just need the "touch" to get them to come out of stand by. And if some TLC doesn't do it, take it to a tech.

I just had my SVT-VR repaired with the same problem. It is less than two years old and made in China.
It started as an intermittent problem going to standby and back to ready. Finally it would not come out of standby. The shop couldn't figure it out at first and said Ampeg was no help. Turns out a final tube failed and took a resistor with it. They replaced all the final tubes and the resistor and it works great. Good luck.
