SVT4 pro settings

dunno if anyone said this but to stop that peaking problemo

have the master fader all the way to the right, then control the gain to as loud as you want it. < thats what i read somewhere anyways.

that peaking issue is a problem for me to, im peaking on both my ampeg svt3-pro and the line 6 pod

arrrggggh well.. they should realy take that peak light off there and let bass players crank it to however high they want it ha!

Just to make sure, did you take your speakon cable apart and rewire it so that you are getting the power from both of your amps? Saying that you are using the cable that came with the amp does not tell me anything. The cable that you would use for stereo mode is wired differently than the one you would use for bridge mode.

I had the exact same problems with my SVT4Pro, it just didn't get loud enough no matter what I did. I used it with svt 410hlf & svt 610av but there wasn't enough headroom with either of those cabs. AND we didn't play loud. I don't know if all these amps have same kind of problems but mine didn't get even close to those 1200 watts what should be getting out of it.

Now I'm using MarkBass LMII and I have to set the volume to 9 o'clock max. I have also A/B:d 4Pro with SVT CL and CL was much, much louder than 4Pro (and yes of course better sounding). It (4Pro) was wired correctly and everything, I just didn't get rid off the limiting problem. No matter if master was all the way up and gain was used to control the volume. So I got rid of it...

As others have said:

1) ultra lo switch is not quite usable for band situations

2) use compression in small amounts

3) boost your mids instead of cutting them

4) turn up gain and set -15db switch in OUT position

You've said your cables are proper for svt4. If all that's not helping, there must be something wrong with the amp. I've never even had to push mine up to the limits, but I use fridge so I guess that sum of speaker surface plays its role. Although 410 should be plenty loud.

Hope you'll manage to beat guitars and cast the spell of bass all over the place! :bassist:

So it would be better to not use the 15db pad? I know that i will not be able to turn the gain up as high that way, but all i am doing at that point is adjusting for the volume decrease...i have had it in and the tech said everything was great with the amp...both sides were putting out the same wattage...so in mono it should be great...
I do not have the ultra low in
and i have the compressor at around 11o clock so i will lower that...i also have a EBS compressor that i have at around 12 oclock so should i lower that as well...or just the onboard one?

This may sound like a dumb question and you didn't mention in your posts, but did you push in the mono/bridged button on the back of the amp?

The last time I saw King's X it was in a small club. I got a chance to talk to Doug Pinnick and his tech about his rig. Since it was a small club, he went bare bones with one 4 pro and 2 810 cabs and a few other effects for his tone. It was super loud so there's more than enough wattage to keep up with the rest of the band.

All of the basses that I played through these amps have been/are active.

Right now, I'm playing a pair of Warwick SSI 5 strings, both active. My gain is set right around the 12:00 mark, sometimes a hair higher. I set it so the red clip light comes on pretty regularly when I dig in.
