I have never done any tweaking on a bass before so I wonder, can you swap a neck (same model, different wood) without worying about intonation, action or other inconveniences?

When you say same model, I assume you mean j bass neck for j bass neck, same scale length, same heel width, etc.
There may be some inconveniences when swapping a neck. Sometimes it doesn't fit properly in the neck pocket, sometimes it sits lower/higher in the pocket than the previous neck. These problems are relatively easy to handle. I have not had any problems with intonation, however, that an adjustment could not fix.
I would say no, but it is not that hard to set intonation, truss rod, or the action. You wouldn't have to adjust it that far just a slight tweak would do. I check the intonation everytime I put a new set of strings on one of my basses. A chromatic tuner, allen wrenches, and a phillips head screw driver would be all that you should need.
