Sweetwater calling...

Anybody else get a call from Performance Pavilion? They had me on the line for a minute asking a bunch of music related random questions, until they finally said it was "Sweetwater". I hung up after the word Sweetwater was slipped in.
I honestly only bought a cheap cable, like last year, that's it 😄

I haven’t gotten a call from a “sales engineer” in quite a while, maybe five years. I do occasionally get email from them. When I did get calls, they were always friendly and low pressure. I think I’ve only bought one thing from them, and that was a case for my Epiphone EB-0. They gave me a good deal, it was either a returned item or an open box. It was pristine.

I'm trying to understand. Is it that you hate Sweetwater? You hung up on the guy after he said it was related to Sweetwater.

I can understand a dislike of private equity firms, but the guys making the calls are just dudes trying to get buy and have probably been there for years. My guy Kris has been with Sweetwater forever. We've talked back and forth for years. He's never tried to push a sale on me and only asked about stuff I bought and if I had any good gigs lately. He actually called me last night, and I felt bad that I let it go to voicemail. I like chatting with him from time to time.

Also, those generative AI summaries aren't great sources for information. Sort of like doing a research paper with Wikipedia. The information there might or might not be correct as it's being generated from multiple sources or varying veracity.

Yeah, I have no problem talking to my guy. If the call is from Fort Wayne I know who it is cuz I don't have family there. Work with them a little, sometimes they can make something happen for you. Sometimes they can't. It's not personal.

Sweetwater is pretty good for the most part in my years of experience with them. Zzounds and American Musical Supply are the one's you better watch out for.
I have been burned by American Musical as well years ago. Haven't used them since. Hope they enjoyed that extra hundred bucks.

I find them to be a helpful resource for some purchases. And they do have some discretion, I bought a replacement speaker from them that I ended up damaging (don't ask), and needed another. the sales guy I work with cut me a really good deal. I buy local whenever I can (not Guitar Center, we have a great locally-owned store here) but for bass, there are many things they don't carry. But they are able to order most things, and match online prices.

My Sweetwater rep calls me out of the blue like once a year, and only if he hasn't heard from me in a while. Normally we will talk once about every 6 to 8 months because I'm buying something or waiting on something to come in.

Musician's Friend on the other hand, they call every other month. They actually called me 5 mins after I walked into my local Guitar Center a couple of weeks back. Makes you wonder if they're tracking your location or the GC store wifi recognized my phone and sent MF a notice, he's in the store! 🤣
