Sweetwater Scratch n' Dent instruments

Mine was listed as having “finish blemishes”. One of the online pics showed an example where the finish looked worn through.

When I received it, yup, finish in the creases along the back side of the body looked thin.

It was a Gibson Thunderbird (2018) and I think I paid under $900. It’s been one of my two number one players since then.

It’s got a nitro finish, and I’ve put many more blemishes on it, a few hundred gigs later.

Interesting. They have a few pieces I am interested in that are reduced. Naturally I am firmly on the fence....

Sweetwater "scratch and dents" are often what other retailers would sell you as brand new, etc. They are very up front about the condition of the instruments so if there are blemishes they'll photo them or at least describe them in detail. Very reliable IMO.

Greetings from the North,

One of my project Squier Affinity Jazz 5s that was intended to be a parts donor bass was a scratch n dent item. Before it got butchered I plugged it in and it sounded so good I decided save and keep it. Now its a project on to itself lol. And the minor dents would invariably have happened to it anyway. I mean relic ing....

I bought an expensive(ish) guitar from them which was supposedly "scratch 'n' dent".

They even sent me a photo of the allegedly afflicted spot. I didn't see it on the photos and I can't see it on the instrument.

I almost offered to pay them full price, when it got here, but Mrs. Stanley only raised one idiot and her name is "Christine".

(in 1993) I bought a BB King Lucille guitar 'scratch and dent'. There wasn't a mark on it and nobody could tell me why it was tagged that way (but when you get a discount, you don't want to argue the case too much). It's a stereo guitar and I discovered afterwords that one of the two output jacks had been wired incorrectly. Easy fix for me. So, no regrets.
