I just did this only weeks ago. I was at Sweetwater helping a friend pick out some sax gear. I was not there to buy anything. I was trying a Reverned 5 P/J bass and he suggested trying it against a Fender Precision to see how close the sound came to a P bass. He pulled one off the wall and I plugged it in. What happened next was amazing. I was suddenly playing one of the best Precision basses I had ever played. I already own a Pro II 5 string (lots of theater work so I needed the low B) but this thing blew it out of the water. The bass was so resonant and easy to play. Two days later I called my guy Paul Allen and negotiated a very decent price on it.Anyone ever bought one? What was the issue with it? Is this just an "unofficial" sale similar to what Fender did with the Squiers recently?
It was a scratch and Dent special for $1574 or something and Paul was willing to sell it to me for $1,400. the pictures showed the damage on the web site. I really have to look for the damage and it bothers me not at all since I will be putting plenty more scratches on it in the near future. Including pic of the bass. The damage was a tiny chip in the paint where someone apparently tried to remove the neck, and a bump that damaged the polish on the finish on the lower bout of the bass, again all VERY minor and you really have to look to find them. Happy Camper here. Now I just need to sell the P5 to pay for this thing.
