Switching basses...how the...???

Justin, I don't know how you do it. You must have a special bass-switching gene that most of us don't. I usually only bring one+upright to a gig (which is hard enough to deal with), but the past couple nights' gigs were pretty big so I brought 3 just to look cool. Everything was haywire. Volumes, tones, pedal settings...I felt like I was tweaking knobs more than actually playing.

How do you cope? Aside from having a tech to tweak for you when you need it ;)

Ahhh - he has a switching system in his rack (check the thread that has his NIN rig in it) which it all plugs into. I haven't looked really had into them but I wouldn't be surprised if you can change the levels.

Or maybe he has the time to program everything he runs through to match levels...

I usually take 3 basses to a gig. They are all fairly similar in outputs which is good, although now I have a Stingray that is hotter than most of the others so it will be interesting to see how it goes.

The coleman is for switching between upright/electrics/synth/acoustic bass guitar. As far as between basses, I do the following:

If it's a digital, MIDI and modeling based rig like NIN, it's easy. Sans PSA 1.1 is used for a bit of gain, but mainly for just simple gain differences. You can do this with all kinds of different boxes that have presets. POD, etc.

If it's an analog rig, there's a Boss EQ pedal called the EQ-10, which I used a lot with Beck. Myself or my tech would switch that between different presets during a bass change. It works out just fine. I'm sure there are other options as well. The thing is, it's not simply level that changes; inevitably EQ as well.

Yes, EQ changes a lot apparently. Especially when you go from new rounds to 12 year old flats ;) That Boss EQ looks like a sweet pedal. I have a Zoom pedal that might be good for that as well. Didn't even occur to me to use it for that. Next time, bro. Thanks for the tip!
