switching strings...need to change setup?

There are a few things that will change:
  1. Neck relief - the larger strings will pull harder on the neck. Check the relief and tighten the truss rod if necessary.
  2. Action - the larger strings will have a different stiffness so you may be able to lower the action slightly.
  3. Intonation - the intonation will need to be checked and adjusted for the new strings.
  4. Nut Slots - if the larger strings stick/bind in the nut slots, the sides of the slots will have to be widened slightly. Otherwise the bass won't stay in tune.
If you don't know how to make any of those adjustments watch these 4 videos on bass setups and read the setup stickies at the top of this thread.
