Switching to MIDI Controlled Pedal Switching

Hi all,

In light of a recent gig disaster (pitcher of beer + pedal board = :dead:), I'm considering switching to pedals-in-rack and remote switching to keep my gear safe. I know I can get a Voodoo Ground Control + GCX to solve my problems, but that's a bit expensive and I'd like to evaluate more cost effective options first... a pitcher of beer on a Ground Control is a fairly expensive issue in its own right.

I run around 10 pedals in my live setup and I would use 6-8 loops but 4 might be doable.

I am definitely in favor of DIY if there's existing designs that have been proven to work.

Ideally I only have two cables on the floor: bass to switcher 1/4" cable and switcher to foot controller MIDI cable. The GCX+Ground Control looks to do exactly this but again, anything cheaper out there?

So a few questions... I can find the GCX for pretty cheap (~$200 used) whereas the Ground Control is the expensive bit at around $400. Are there any cheaper foot boards out there that would work with the GCX and take power over midi like the Ground Control does? Any designs/circuits out there that I could use to build a foot controller similar to the Ground Control? I don't need LCD readouts and whatnot... switch+LED indicator is fine.

Thanks!

It depends on how much you want in terms of features, but the Rocktron MIDI Mate would do what you want at a lower price point. Not as large as the Voodoo Labs Ground Contro, either.
Thanks, I'll check it out!

Edit: Looks like it kind of works but for only 5 loops and there's some goofy back-patching you need to do if the midi mate isn't at V.1 but rather V.2 firmware.

However, I could get the Rocktron Patchmate + MIDI Mate for the same functionality. Choices choices.
