swollen pickle?

First time posting after lurking around, ha.

I play in a ska/punk band (mainly with a pick but sometimes fingers) and was wondering what you guys thought of a fuzz/dirt pedal I could use. I really like the distortion in 'mr brightside' (not a ska/punk song but I like it :)) though after using various pedals I'm noticing a lot of low end suckage. The swollen pickle I have has a nice low end and I turn the sustain all the way down but it still sounds a little fuzzy at times; I have played around A LOT with the combinations and have a feeling I might regret not returning it for something

In short, a nice dist pedal without low end loss/a little more open?

Another option is getting a Blender (i.e. Xotic X-blender). which allows you to control the wet and dry signal. I usually dial in 70% wet 30% dry and I have found it really helps keep the bottom end and provides greater punch. You could also add an eq pedal to regain some of the lows. I personally play mine with a x-blender into a VT bass deluxe.

Have you open up the swollen pickle and adjusted the trim inside?

A final option is the fuzzrocious grey stache which has a lot of low end.

the swollen pickle is great. I like it but it seems like in a band setting its overly muddy. I stopped using mine and went back to my big muff. my guitarist now is in love with the swollen pickle. I just recently picked up a wren and cuff pickle pie b and its perfect. The blend knob is the best thing ever. try one out if you can. The blend knob brings your clean tone back in.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I guess for some reason I thought I could 'tame' the pickle but ended up returning it and getting an aguilar tone hammer. Ags always on, with a clean tone, but enough to have some grit when played harder. Never been so satisfied with with a purchase such as this! :escatic: :bassist:

I would give the Green Rhino a try, it can be bright if you want it to be.
I have the feeling that you are also looking for something that offers a wider range of distortion than the Pickle. The Pickle is a fuzz so it's inherently pretty hot. The Rhino is milder can cover a wider range, from overdrive to mild fuzz.
