SWR Baby Blue II needs replacement speaker

Cool little amp. I wonder if those 8" speakers are PAS like my old SWR Goliath III cab?

I used to live close to SWR. Went in many times for "stuff". I had a 1x10 combo and a 2x10 box that needed speakers. They could only do one of the boxes at that moment because they didn't have the right replacement speaker available for the other box. Every 10in speaker was spec'd out specifically for each box. I'm sure you can find speakers that work in your box. Hopefully they work as well as the originals. Maybe just get yours reconed.

You could be right. Once B-string joined we were getting mixed up quite often. Although I think I may have joined TB a bit earlier than him. I'll have to look. He seems like a great guy.

To revive this old thread, this is what I bought to replace my Baby Blue (very early original version) that had one shredded speaker and a very tired companion. Both were original Bag End speakers and these are the closest in spec available:
Eminence Beta-8A 8in 225W 8 Ohms
The amp sounds better than it ever did. I only wish they were lighter because 45 pounds feels heavier than it used to feel.

Of Low Down Sound was using 18Sound 8” drivers as replacements for the Bag Ends which were 16 ohm, 8 ohm Celestion’s were the second speakers used in the Baby Blue. If the Eminence Beta 8A’s are similar to Super 8’s the that Mike Arnopol uses it will be quite an upgrade. Ciare also makes very special 8’s

When my BB2 speakers crapped out I had Val, The Amp King (San Jose) give the amp the once over. He recommended and replaced the speakers with the emenice b8’s. Extremely punchy and was the way to go! Been very happy with the upgrade.

Mine spends more time in the Studio. Live it’s been smoked by a Hartke tiltback but no way do many rigs sound this good. I don’t have it for volume as some folks need. It’s tone is amazing. The ability to sound big in a small setting and it’s “more me” studio abilities aren’t matched. It’s great for playing with singer songwriters.

Re-reviving this old thread yet again...I have an older Baby Blue with the Celestions that crapped out and have been looking at replacing them with the Eminence Beta-8As for years. I once was told that they required some alteration to the cabinetry to make them fit (hence why I have yet to do so.) Did you have any issue with this or were they plug and play? Thanks!

I have some new OEM Eminence 8" Neo drivers that were being considered to in the follow-up to the Baby Blue (reissue) that never happened once SWR was shut down. I believe these were plug and play but need the internal volume and porting information to be sure I am remembering this correctly. It's been over 10 years since I worked on this.

Re-reviving this old thread yet again...I have an older Baby Blue with the Celestions that crapped out and have been looking at replacing them with the Eminence Beta-8As for years. I once was told that they required some alteration to the cabinetry to make them fit (hence why I have yet to do so.) Did you have any issue with this or were they plug and play? Thanks!

My Baby Blue (an early production of the first version) did not need any alterations. The installation was a simple swap from the decrepit Bag Ends to the Eminence, which were also a big improvement in tone.
