I found the 2x8" gets lost very quickly which is why I am not fond of the BB combo. I even tried it with the 2X8" extension cab(giving me 4x8's) and it still gets lost.

I found the 2x8" gets lost very quickly which is why I am not fond of the BB combo. I even tried it with the 2X8" extension cab(giving me 4x8's) and it still gets lost.
If you are playing a BB II where is gets lost then it is not in it's element. If it's lost or not delivering it's sweet sound use a different amp. It is a treasure that does what it does really well. Don't ask it to play garage practices with a loud drummer. It excels at studio work, coffee house, quiet gigs, and for me singer songwriter gigs where you can get that huge recorded bass sound in balance with vocals and acoustic instruments.

Zildjian106 was concerned about the 2x8's not having enough oomph and you're just confirming what I said about the 8's not being enough for anything more than the type of situations mentioned. But as far as the BB being limited to quiet situations I totally disagree. With the BB's first class DI and it's killer tone with the right extension cab, the BB can be used in multiple venues.
Thanks Reefer, it sounds like I would need to replace the speakers with some EBS 8"ers and maybe even put a 2x8" ext. cab as well for my volume needs.

Well Chef, I play anything from light jazz to loud rock. I would only need this amp to stand up volume wise with a (very loud) drummer, not a full band.

Whatever you do, dont buy the Fender SWR Baby Blue combo 1X10.
Ive had one over a year now, and I totally hate it. It is NOTHING like the original Baby Blue. I had that to. Bought it from Macmkt. Macmkt, I wish I would have never sold that head, No wonder you wanted it back so bad.

I have never had the chance to play thru a baby blue or to listen someone playing with it.

It was designed as "a studio reference monitor" for bass.
Fairly flat, tho it will never be "modern and shiny" on top with only a mid driver and no horn.

Because I can play it at high volumes (for it) with the LDS 8"s I noticed it howling after three sets. It was emitting a moan. I checked and replaced the RI Tung Sol with a NOS Tesla. Okay now it's da bomb!
I didn't know the pre volume went past the dots to straight down. Wow. Luscious, I say. Get you one. I have my Celestions for that old school (SWR BBII old school) sound. It doesn't really sound that different just more capable.

Sorry i just feed mixed up... Have You guys talking about the "Baby Blue I" , "Baby Blue II" or! the "Baby Baby Blue" ,as I know they are different , and I just tried a "Baby Baby Blue" in a store, need some good suggestion about that..

BBI and BBIIs have 2x8" and 3 or 4" cone tweeter. Studio reference monitor sound. Really effective eq with defeats for eq and effects send. "More Me" function allows the input source . from the console while multitracking. This allows you to have your own mix while using headphones of the recorded mix with as much of your bass as you like not controlled by the engineer. Really great feature.
BBI no vent on top, slightly lower wattage, Bag End 8"s.
BBII vent on top, little more wattage to 160w RMS, Celestion 8"s.
Both to be found in used market. Both sound great.
Upgrades we've discussed were Low Down Sound Eminence 8"s.
Each has 160 watt handling. Also different pre tubes.
It was designed to meet a certain need. It is not a combo to purchase for garage banging until one can afford something with more watts. There are a lot of combos out there that can blow it away in a band setting that can never equal it's efficiency, quality of sound, construction and foremost design.

The amps are all the same. It's just the speaker compliment that makes the wattage used change. Different pre tubes? Didn't know about that. What are they, Chadds? I thought they all used GT 12ax7a's.
You misunderstood. I meant that we had discussed changing pre tubes and speakers here on TB. The amps were the same.
