Double Bass SWR blonde

I have one that I bought back in '98. They market this unit as an acoustic amp. I bought it to use on my guitar gigs, but discovered that it worked just as well with double bass. It has been a trouble free workhorse. I currently use an AI Contra for bass now. At 74, I am just to damn old to be lugging a 53 pound amp around.

I use a California Blonde every week in a jazz combo class -doesn't belong to me. I've never played an amp that sounds better for double bass. When I was shopping for an amp I seriously considered getting one but it's too big. It's too tall to just put in a trunk, you'd need to lay it down. Twice a month I have to either walk up a few stairs or lift my amp up on a stage. It just isn't practical for me.

I've heard the Strawberry Blonde but never played one. Which model are you considering?

I used a smaller version of what it a similar amp by swr called the strawberry blonde and was able to get a very nice sound out of it at low volumes that worked well for me on many gigs, but anytime i needed more volume it would just break up and distort and was pretty bulky and heavy compared to the modern breed of amps now available for acoustic bass.
