so i've read a lot of things concerning the fact that SWR's customer svc has gone to garbage, but how about their equipment? i have a pre-buyout sm-900 and a goliath III and i want to get another new goliath III before i can't find one at a decent price. does the post-buyout gear sound any different at all?

I read a post on here recently, where an SWR user, having owned both,
wrote that he didn't hear a difference between the pre and post buyout gear.
One thing to keep in mind is that the new Goliath IV cabs are due out soon, so the time to buy III's might be when the stores try to get rid of the "old" stuff.

I have two (2005) G IIIs and they're some of the most impressive cabs I've ever owned.
FYI, My first one was drowned in Hurricane Katrina so I bought a second one and sent the ruined 10"s to Speaker Services in Memphis for reconing. These guys live and breathe speakers and are well respected in the field. I asked if there was a better driver to use as a replacement. The answer was "these are as good a 10" speaker as there is for bass guitar". (they're made for SWR by P.A.S.)
This also gave me the chance to inspect the cabinet material and construction after stripping off the rat fur. First class all the way with quality plywood and perfect construction. The shame of it all is I still haven't taken the time to reassemble the cab. The reconed speakers are still in the shipping box in my shed (for the last eighteen months). I just hope the temperature changes and bugs haven't ruined 'em again!
I have a friend who has an auto body shop who has offered to spray my cabs with bedliner. Now that I'm thinking of it, I believe I'll get that project started.

my two power 750's are post fender and they are solid and built in CA. my 12-packs/stacks are built in mexico and no problems with them either. i dont think any of the pre-existing designs changed when the buyout occurred in terms of construction details. i've called/emailed customer support a few times and had good experiences - the folks there now dont have the expertise on the gear like before the company was sold but they were cool with providing me schematics and manuals and whatever else they had. im sure others have had bad experiences but i think a lot of it has been overblown.

Though I just sold all my SWR gear (my last piece, a Megoliath is being picked up this morning)... I still love that sound and am not opposed to getting their gear later on again... I went to Markbass because of the size/weight advantage - I think the sound is on the same level, neither is better or worse, just different.
I've read enough negative posts about SWR here but I have my experience with their gear to back me up... Eventhough mine were all pre-Fender.
I would feel comfortable getting the new cabs - but there are a lot of pre-Fender stuff on ebay for around $400 give or take.

i am a big fan of pre fander Swr gear,, especially rare gear.. I have a chrome bass 350,, 350w @ 4ohm running thru a rare Bigfoot2 cab,, its a 2x12 that they made from 94-97, its EXCELLENT.. it came from the factory with 2 bagend 12s rated at 500 rms,, it slams! at 65 lbs, its very portable for those situations where you want a lot of bang and not the hassle, its got great mids and good low end,, i add a ampeg bxt15 4ohm singls 15 when the need is there,, running the bass 350 at 2ohms works great, and runs at 450W.. old Swr is my favorite stuff, ever since i played thru my old mans 1994 mint basic 350 i knew what i would play thru when i had the chance,, if you have the chance to grab a pre fender 2002 or older bass 350 for a good $$, then scoop it up, great sounding stuff
