SWR GoLight Series...

Good point! :D

I'm probably gonna buy the cabs once I get the scratch (a long, sad while from now). Since my ears don't have friggin' meters in them, if the SWR cabs sound REALLY LOUD compared to other cabs, I don't care how they're rated.

And when was the last time someone came up to you after a show and said "dang man, I'll be that cab's rated at LEAST 103db at 1w/1m!" Never, that's when.

Agreed.

I do not use my Spec reference guide when purchasing Gear. I use an old almost forgotten tool called Ears.:p

Bought one here a few months back to go with my Pre Fender Goliath II - this Cab Rawks - great tone and it is a Full Size Neo Cab - so it is light - but brings home the Bacon.

I am using a SWR350x and a Markbass LMII primarily. Have an old 800RB - but have not tried it yet - might do that tonight.

Haha, yeah. It's nearly impossible to tell what a cab will sound like just by looking at a bunch of numbers. Dudes like Bill Fitzmaurice might be able to, but I sure can't.

Ooo! Let us know how that goes; I'm gunning for a 410 on the 300w amp and a 210 on the 100w (in full-range mode).

I can also confirm that SWR bins seem to meet their efficiency specs. I regularly gig one of my 12-packs with only 200 watts (in a two-guitar band) and I have no probs meeting respectable volume levels (read: LOUD).

As much as I love the concept of the Golights, the rat fur is a total turn-off. Sorry, SWR. I love your stuff, but I hate rat fur even more.

I'll just stick to my 12-packs. Thanks anyway. :D

Can't wait to see/hear the HiLight amps. Bring 'em on! Hope they have a tube in the pre. . .

I have been using the Golight 4-10 and 2-10 (sometimes at the same time, but usually one or the other), for several months now. Prior, I owned the Goliath III counterparts. I like the new ones way more. First and obviously, the weight. But I also prefer the sound. I set them all up side by side one day, and A/B'd them extensively. I tested them with both my Walter Woods 1200-watt head, as well as my old and still working 1982 GK 400RB. The Golights have a little bit more ultra low end (40-60hz), which I like for sure. They also seem a little less "clanky" in the highs, as if the horn has been improved. I don't know if it has been or not, but to me, there was a marked improvement there. They feel a little softer and less aggressive in the upper mids, but in a good way, as I have always felt that SWR and Eden cabinets are a bit metallic for my taste. Not these, they feel much better to me. I was hoping that I would like the tone as much as the III's, and that there would not be too big of a sacrifice in going to a lighter cabinet, but what I found instead is that I prefer the sound. To me, they sound a lot like the III's, but more to my liking. A win-win, for sure.

Worth mentioning is that often people ask me if I need help at the end of a gig, and I just always say no. I don't. I get such a kick out of how light these things are I actually look forward to moving them. And I'm 54.

Ha! I saw this and have the same situation. My band mates are constantly asking me if I need help. The Golight cabs are so light and easy to lift why bother getting help?

It is such a pleasure to own/play these cabs. They are loud efficient cabs and sound really nice. I like the pronounced upper mid Bite yet not at all harsh Tone. The 10 cabs just have that punch and the 15's have that wooly booger 15 sound. Part of it is the cab differences I'm sure.

Originally I purchased the 8 ohm Golight 2x10 and 1x15 and now have added the 4 ohm 4x10 to my collection of Golights. At some point I'd like to have an additional 1X15 Golight for using two of the 15's. The 1x15 is so stinking loud and bottom rude it begs to have another beside it at a Fried Chicken BBQ Drunken Blues Gig. :D

Me too.

Beeen using the 1x15 Golight most of the time. It tends to lean towards that old school type of tone though the 2x10 and 4x10 will do it as well. Most of the time I play with the tweeters off. Recently I've beeen using the Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 with all these cabs. The 500 watts at 8 ohms is just perfect for the 8 ohm 2x10 or 1x15 Golights. You just can not beat the 9.0 with the Golights for traditinal Jazzy Blues Boogie Woogie.

Totally GAS'ing for a golight 4x10 now. I've read nothing bad about them, and the weight can't be beat. Gotta get some gigs and save some moolah. We held auditions tonite for a guitarist. Not a bad result, and us 4 (drums, bass, vox, keys) had some amazing sounds happening. Loads of potential in this group, just gotta get it off the ground.

I just played a gig at a medium bar with just my Golight 210 and my TC BH250 head- it held its own, and I wasn't in the PA. Could actually hear the 210 very well on stage as it had a lot of low throw up there. I am considering adding jsut another 110 that will handle about 200 watts, for the ultimate light weight rig. I stack it vertically so it would also be nearer my ear.

An old thread! I have a long post several posts up, back in 2009. I just want to say that I still have and use them constantly, and my comments now would be identical to the comments I made back in 2009.
