My, aren't we testy. I am deeply sorry if my post offended you; just relating my experience, I do not believe I am the only person on the planet less than impressed with this amp's performance. The loudest Peavey I have owned was a combo, I forget the model, it was badged "BW equipped," and older unit with the mid control labelled "mode" and frequency and waveform knobs for the mode control. I replaced the stock 15 with a Hartke aluminum one. It is quite loud, even without an extension cab. The Mobass I had, running through the same 2 4 ohm cabs as I had used with my 400+, was instantly eaten when the one guitarist and drummer kicked in. I could hear myself fine up to 3 feet away from my cabs.
I mentioned "rock context" trying to hint that volume levels are subjective... what's suitable for jazz may not be loud enough for rock. In other words, my loud and your loud are most likely different. I recall one amp I sold here on TB because it was not loud enough even to rehearse with, the aggressive drummer forces us to turn up to be heard. The person who bought it proclaimed it very loud. I like a bass rig to be able to make itself felt without PA support if need be, not just function as a stage monitor.
Since I've only been partially successful in my attempt to reply without being a smart@ss, I'll stop reading this thread before things get ugly for no good effect.
