My combination is the 4x8 (now discontinued - WHY??!!) and the 15. Believe it or not, the 4x8 is actually plenty for me - whatever it lacks in volume it gives in punch. It's the kind of cab where you can play at a low volume and still cut through the mix. I actually haven't been too fond of the 15 cab lately - I find it makes my sound uneven (too boomy on the low notes but notes on the G string don't speak as well). I may trade it for the 2x10. I use the GK 700RB head, which I prefer to the SWR bass 350. I think it puts out as much juice as some 500 watt heads and has super crisp high-end.

A good 4x10 atop a 1x15 will bring a tear to your eye my friend. I just added a 1x15 to my setup (which is a R-1000 w/ a 4x10), and that thing has sparkling highs (when wanted), punch, tightness, clarity, warmth, fullness, and it COULD get boomy if I wanted it to...but why muddy the sound when you could give people a great thump to the chest from the ole' low mids.

You'll love it, and it will suit any application...very very versatile...

A rig I've used for many years and received many complements on is two original SWR 4x10 Goliaths, a '70's Alembic F2B preamp (tubes, baby) and a Crown Power Base2 poweramp. Tremendous across the entire bass spectrum - 'tight' with deep lows, punchy mids, and crystal clear highs. No mud. I prefer a very hi-fi, piano-like live sound and this setup delivers (one cab or both). Of course, I still believe the real 'sound' comes from your hands, but a quality instrument and quality gear help to enhance or bring out 'your' natural sound. YMMV.

the 4x10T is a workingmans cabinet.

try a goliath 3...totally different ballgame.

so now that they released the 4 ohm goliath III i'm a little torn. i was going to sell my cabs and get a goliath sr and then a small combo, but if my 2x10 + triad is plenty loud, wouldn't bridging 1000 W into a goliath 3 be plenty loud too?

I recently bought a SWR Bass 750 with the new 4 ohm Goliath III and I'm loving it. I can get any sound I want and the head powers up to the full potential of the speakers. No problem with headroom at all. I've never had so many good comments about my tone before. People can't believe that a bass can sound that clean without being trebly! IMO :D

I use the Goliath SR with an older SM400S head, and it RAWKS....I gig between 6-12 nights/ month in ALL kinds of styles and I have yet to run out of headroom or be unable to find the tone I need for any gig.
The Senior is still manageable in size (barely) and I personally like using only one cab. I did play the new 12 Stack at NAMM this January and I loved it, especially for an "old school" warm, round tone. Mids aplenty and really good bass response, it's a different kind of cab though, to be sure, it's not the typical SWR sound, but it's a great cab.
BTW, Geoff, I have the 12 Stack and 12 Pack on the way, so when you come to pick up your Dingwall 6 you should check 'em out.
