If the tort is the same on the Jazz basses, i dont really like SX's tort. It looks just real cheesy. These guys have cheap pickguards. $15 for a tort, pearl, black, whatever. www.azguitarparts.com (no affiliation). Never fit one to a SX bass, but i got one for a strat and they are seem well made.

I kind of agree with you, however, my other SX has the cheesy tort guard already, so I wanted my new one to match

Savit260 plays professionally (I think) and uses SX P's. I know he had them professionally setup but I'm waiting word from him on whether that means that the frets were professionally leveled or not. Most of the folks who have bought SX basses are impressed with the way they play and sound - especially for the price.

Yes, I've been gigging my SX SPB62 for over 3 years now. It's even made it into one regular music video and a promo video for an upcoming release due out in June.

I do all my own set up work, exept for fret work. That I leave to gunine luthiers. One of my SX's (the blue one that I've been using steady for a long time now) has had the frets done. My backup has stock fret work.

I inquired about both, Kurt only replied with the black... I prefer tort, but black would be better than the white to me.

Just an update, Kurt and I got our signals crossed. The bass is shipping with the black guard. He was really cool about it, and I think the black guard will look nice with the blocks and binding. Can't wait until it gets here!

It's heeeere! Anyone else get theirs yet?
I will write a review tonight when I get home from work. First impression, I am most impressed by the pickup. It is dead quiet and really nails that P bass sound.
