SX Basses

I've been looking into a cheap, 'gigging' bass that I could use without concern of damaging. I've looked around a lot, and the only ones I can find that are both inexpensive and new were the Rogue and SX basses. Though I have not totally ruled out Rogue, the SX basses seem to get better reviews, and I've always liked gthat P-Bass style. However, my question is not (though I wouldn't mind some answers to this as well) what you guys think of these basses are like. What I really wanted to know was where I could find a bass like this. I really like the metal pieces over the bridge and pickups, and I saw a righty version of this on Amazon a while back, but now, whenever I see an SX bass like this (or some other neat look), it's either lefty, short-scale, or fretless, none of which I am interested in. What I ask is where can I find any one of these models in a righty, full scale, fretted version, and is there some explanation for why this brand sells so many lefty basses. Much appreciated, thanks.

They sell so many lefty basses because they don't restock very often, and the left handed stock moves very slowly. The righthanded stock is a lot lower because people buy it and it isn't replaced immediately.

Anyway, that's just a standard SX jazz bass with $40 of replacements parts. Get the right handed version, $6 knobs, $30 ashtrays, and you're set.

SX is of MUCH higher quality than Rogue. You don't see anyone here bragging about their Rogue, but search "Essex" (the TB search engine cannot do searches lower than three letters) and you'll be swamped with information.

From time to time Kurt also does custom work but, it's $20 for a quote.
However you can choose finishes, pickguards, hardware, and pickups along with other stuff. I've personally never done it but, if I order a SX I'd do it that way.

Here are some pics of my SX. Extrememly sold especially for the money. If you can hunt down a righty like mine I'd suggest you snag it...QUICKLY. I have since added a pick-up cover to match the bridge cover.

Bought directly from Kurt.

I've been playing over 30 years and have owned all kinds of gear. I have an SX P-bass and couldn't be happier with it. I think it's more than just "a good bass for the money." It's just a good bass, period.

Will it smoke an MIA Fender? No. But you are paying around 15X less, and with a few upgrades (if you feel like it) you can get to that ball park.

Frankly, what sells me on SX the most (I own an SX Tele copy and have played other SX instruments) are the necks. I vastly prefer the necks on the SX stuff I've played over most anything Fender or Squier has had on offer the past 15 years or more.
