Thanks for the kind words. The two 13 yr olds are looking for a bassist. My oldest, who usually plays guitar in another band sat in played bass and sang for them that night. Ahhh youth. This is one of most terrifying and rewarding parts of being a parent.

Well mine came in today. This bass is incredibly light!!

I only got to noodle on it for a quick second with the stock strings and I was very surprised. From what I remember, the stock strings on the past SXs I've played are pretty terrible. I was able to get some pretty useable tones and it growled like a monster!! Very well made, feels great.

As expected, there are several finish flaws throughout the bass. Mostly around the fretboard with clamp marks on the fretboard and nut. Nothing all that big of a deal I would think when the price is kept in mind. What I did find most odd are some markings from paint or a marker of sort around the edge of the frets. They seemed to have faded a hair and bled onto the rag I was wiping with isopropyl alcohol.

I was fully expecting to want to strip the bass of all electronics and start modding, but I'm not feeling the urgent need as much. The tuners are relatively loose, but manageable. The pre is a bit noisy, but I know the wiring in my house is lacking a ground; so I'll keep away from any concrete opinions on it.

Well, it turns out what I thought would be a setup problem, ended up being a much more major issue.

I was having some really bad notes around the fretboard rattling out. I thought it could be worked through, but I noticed several (nearly all) frets didn't seem to be seated properly. In fact, I was able to pull a fret OUT of the fretboard with just my fingernails.

Not super sure where to go from here.....

Well, they're sold out and not getting anymore. I'd like to keep the bass because of the price point and configuration, so I'm not sure what he can offer.

Selling? No!!!!

I bought this bass to be a project bass. I never intended to be in over my head immediately, but I suppose that's what makes this fun.

I simply don't have the tools to do a proper refret nor the funds to get them. I'm looking to work with what I have here. I did post a thread and have a good bit of input. I'd love to fully refret the entire neck though.

Super glue, rubber mallet, and a straight edge. It will get you close untill you can get a dressing.
