SX Headstock shape idea

Too angular for a Fender-shaped instrument, IMO.

Fender's lawyers did a terrible job there - the only part of the design they managed to protect was the headstock. That has to be the least important part of the look. As the current market would show.

+1. If I pull the trigger on one of those Douglas P fretlesses, I've been thinking of just rounding all the angles of save the one below the E tuner.

Also been chortling about adding Fender-esque spaghetti letters that say "Farter". My sense of humor topped of @ 12 years old.

Sorry, I don't dig that at all..

I will be taking on a small SX neck project soon. Am going to use Citristrip to take off the orange-ish tint and reshape it to be similar to Mike Lull's headstock. It's simple yet elegant.

I like the Lull idea, and it's not a radical departure from the headstick shape of the SX - should be a breeze

I think it is worse than the already terrible "new" SX style headstock.

The Lull has a softening effect, and the tele is at least a classic.

Why it matters, I dont know. It bothers me a little that it bothers me.

Yeah, kinda. I figure ugly is okay if it's unique. Hehehe. Like an old Elrick bass headstock then suddenly it's looks like a classy custom bass. Well, maybe.

I agree that "pointy" shapes don't go with the Fender-style bodies. I really like the Lull shape and it probably could be easy to do to an Ursa. Tele shape works too. Although all my Ursa SX basses have been modded with the "dixiecup" mod. [rounded nose made by tracing around paper cup of right diameter...actually I use a lid off a rattlecan to mark where to saw] That's pretty simple to do and looks decent too.

You can get close to a Tele shape, as done on this cool Douglas build.

But when you look at both headstocks together, you can see that the Tele is actually much bigger...

I have never had anybody reference anything I have done before. Gives me a tiny feeling of satisfaction. Anyway...I like the Lull headstock idea.

I've seen the old headstock necks sold now an then, maybe that's a good option.

There must be something wrong with me. I don't mind the new headstock shape. In fact, I like it better than the old "clown" headstock.

OTOH, the Tele idea is strangely compelling.
