Anybody tried these? I recently started playing again after a 18 year hiatus (had nerve damage in my left hand, switched to a lefty bass).

Im looking to get a cheap bass to see how I can do. Being lefty makes it difficult to try anything out at the store, need to know some opinions on these! Thanks.

Thanks, I looked through many of the SX threads but didnt see anything specific to the LTD line. Im particulary interested in this line since it has upgraded bridge, tuners, and electronics. As well as filed fret work. I would expect it to be a bit better than the typical SXs Ive read about.

I have had the LTD line its nice, how much of a improvement? thats still hit or miss, you will def have to do a setup for sure. But the rest is nice, tuners work well, bridge is nice, but really nothing special, pickups sounded the same to the other 3 SXs I had, but the fretwork was the key there, I didnt have to do anything which was nice.

I've heard people say the fretwork is improved, and therefore the bass is less likely to need much work other than a basic setup. They're not much more than a regular SX, so it seems like a decent deal.

However, they ran out of righty LTDs before I ordered one, so I can't help you with a personal experience other than to say I was about ready to buy one based on what I had read here on TB, but they were out of them.

I'm leaning more towards getting a Squier Vintage Modified as my experimental/modding project.

Not having to fiddle with the fretwork alone is worth the extra bills for me. I was about to fork over $489 for a MIM FSR Jazz. I liked the natural alder body and had played one at Guitar Center a year ago.

Then I saw the SX LTD for $179 which actually looks a little better than the Fender. I only plan to use this for a year or two and then keep it as a backup or mod the heck out of it.

That body is beautiful, I wouldnt mind making a project bass out of it in the future. It would cost me around $400 just to get a body with the same finish at Warmoth!

Don't know if your still looking for input about the LTD line, but I'll throw in my 2 cents anyway.
I got the LTD short scale J bass with natural ash body, maple neck with pearloid block inlays. It has that great 70's look. I can compare it to 2 other SX basses.
The fret work is smoother, the bridge is heftier, and the pick ups don't hum when solo'd unlike most traditional J style pick ups.
This is probably only an issue with the short scale models, but I did have to move the bridge to correctly set the intonation and replaced the mounting screws so they were fully counter sunk and the saddles could slide over them. It has one slightly dead spot on the G string at the 6th fret.
It' has become my favorite bass though. Very smooth playing and deep talking.
My SX P bass is lighter and has more mid range burp. I had to smooth out those frets and replaced the pickups.
I also had and sold a frettless SX J bass that had a chunkier feeling neck. It had kind of a midrangy singy tone, that I felt was too close in frequency range to our vocals. Hope this helps.
