I just got an SX SJB 57 3/4 from Rondomusic.com and was planning on modding it. I was wondering what people who own SX short scales have done as far as modding their basses. Pictures please.

Yup, what he said. On a side note, on the Squier owners club thread, someone (sorry, cant remember which TB member) modded out a Squier Bronco Bass (short scale). Among other things, he tossed the stock pup and added a MM style to it. Check it out, its effen sweet!
I appreciate the direction to the ESSEX megathread and I have looked at that and the SHORT SCALE thread.
What I really wanted was for the owners of these basses (short- scale SX, Essex, whatever) the discuss the parts that they used to modify/customize their basses and more importantly any difficulties they had with the replacement parts, relative to the reduced scale, narrower string width.

I have a short scale SX P-Bass. The pickup was bad so I replaced it with a pickup from a Fender MIM Precision. It fit fine. I also replaced the volume and tone pots and output jack.
I cannot find a replacement bridge that will fit, so I am still using the stock bridge. It works fine, so this is not a problem. I cannot find a pickguard that will fit. I'd like to change to a black pickguard but not enough to pay for a custom one.

About the only things that will be "drop in" replacements on the short scale SXs are the pickups and tuners. You can't use a Fender pickguard, for example, on an SX Jazz because there are more holes on the Fender. They won't line up exactly either.
I put a Gotoh standard bridge on my SX short scale P-bass and it fit without a problem. I just needed to drill some extra holes because they were off slightly, but it was no problem. I put Fender Noiseless pups in my short scale Jazz SX and they fit perfectly.

I'm putting together an SX shortscale P bass. I had one before and sold it, but it was just so combfortable to play I'm getting another one.
Mods to be done:
-custom black pg
-hipshot UL tuners
-nordy NP4 pups
-graphite nut
-new bridge
-new electronics
Basically the only thing will be stock is the body. I really like the 2 tone burst body with a black pg and black hardware. I am even buying an SX ss rosewood jazz neck. The SX ss P only comes with maple and I want rosewood this time.

Rondo doesnt seem to currently have ss p basses on their website. Where did you get yours? I got one (my previous one is pictured above) but the body is much more orange than red.

I just got this from Kurt in Nov. and started on it after XMAS stuff got done....was going to put a short scale Jazz bass neck on in place of the current (for a rosewood board) but had to send it back, Kurt said it would fit with shimming but he was thinking the other way around...WAY too wide at the heel...
I'm Sorry! I didn't even bother to say I DID get it from Rondo's Ebay site....but they also have a separate web site as well. By the way, Has anyone else seen the SX from over in Spain??? And does anyone know where I can get spare upgrade stuff...Eg; corian nuts pickguards....they have very distinct way they have to be cut in order to work!!!

My Jazz has TI flats and on this I'm gonna try Roto black Nylons I hear they sound great on P's!! BTW I'll look around for a righty!!! I'm cursed on the 'BAY!

I've read in the megathread and elsewhere about the LTD improvements. I'm trying to decide if I want to get one of the $109 basic SS basses, suchas the Link Removed and mod it myself as needed, or pop the extra $60 for SX's improvements.
Any thoughts from LTD SS owners? Are the LTD improvements good enough to go with without modding?

Depends on what quality you can stand. Personally, I'd buy the cheaper one and up grade everything. The neck and body are good, but everything else is mediocre IMO/IME.
The answer is a definite yes.
I have the SJB-75 LTD in Natural Ash. It's leagues above the stock SX basses. The bridge and the tuners alone are worth the extra price. The electronics are great and the fret work is smooth as silk.
I would say the LTD version is definitely worth the extra bucks. Think if it like this: if a standard SX is equal to a Standard Squire, then the LTD SX is equal to the Squire VM series.
I've used nothing but my shorty P and J for pit work for the last couple of years - you couldn't get me to take a full scale into the pit again. I only have the standard models, not the LTD. I keep Roto 66's on the J for the more modern and rock-oriented shows, and Roto 77's on the P for the more traditional shows. I haven't modded anything, so I can't give you any advice there, but I'm a much happier camper with these 2 shorties in the pit than I ever was with full scale. Of course, I'm an old guy with short arms, so that may make a difference. YMMV.
