SX Ursa 6-string Jazz bass

okay anyone else feel the low B is kinda quieter than it should be? ive tried a few different strings all of them sound kinda weak :|

yeah ive raised the pickups on the low B side and even changed the strings. still not happy :atoz:

A couple people on here have tried adding magnets under the pickups to raise output level. Give it a shot. I know there's a link within the last few pages on where to get the magnets.

I believe the string spacing is maxed out on these pickup, the B and C are at the end of the range of the pickups . More magnets under the pickups may help :)

Eearlier on this thread bassbenj talks about it; he's the man you wanna talk about this. The key is no more stress on one rod than on the other or else the neck might warp.

Yeah, when I first got mine it was sort of a mystery as it came with no information. Did rods tighten the same way or opposite ways? Nobody said.

So with some fooling around I manage to determine that both rods are indentical and do indeed both tighten and loosen in identical directions.

Hence my method was to take the neck with strings loose and then find the place for each rod by turning the adjustement where the whole business is loose. This puts no tension on the neck at all.

Then from that point on I tighten each rod until the looseness is gone but I'm not putting any real tension onto the neck. I want to feel the same reistance to turning from each truss rod screw but in any case it will not be any great deal of force. The idea is to try to balance the tension in the rods as a starting point.

Then I put on the strings and tune them up. These necks are pretty stiff and you may need any from none to just a tiny bit of tightening to get a proper relief. In that case I tighten each truss rod always the same amount of the other. So I'm doing say an 1/8 turn on each rod to make adjustments. I just press down the A or D string on the 1st and say 20th fret to see the relief the neck is providing. You just keep an eye on it for a couple of weeks as the neck settles in and it ends up great!

That's it!

I never loosened the truss rods all the way on mine. I did change the strings and then checked the relief and adjusted accordingly. I just did very small adjustments over a period of several days; the neck seems to be stable so I'm leaving well enough alone.

More than I'd hoped. The cosmetic stuff (refinish, wooden pick guard and control plate, headstock reshaping) around $350. On top of that, all new hardware (mostly hipshot) and new pickups (MEC) and preamp (Aguilar) probably close to $500. At this point, it's a labor of love.

which allen key size exactly which fits the truss rods in this bass!?
4.something mm? i need to know!! 4 1/4mm? 4.2? 4.3? help me
misplaced the key which came with the bass but i am pretty sure it was not an exact fit either!

Pretty sure it's 4mm. Every SX bass and guitar I have has been 4mm with the exception of my Standard Series SPB which is 5mm, go figure.
