T-40 vs T-45?

My personal take on why T-40s go for so little is Peavey priced them too cheap way back in 78.

A lot of folks who bought them didn't have the Fender cash so got Peavey until they did. Doesn't matter the Peaveys
offered more and were better built the unfair "make do" stigma has plagued Peavey basses ever since.

good info there - but no mention of it in terms of an actual review. that's more of a history lesson... interesting stuff though!

still really curious if a 45 would sit in a band mix the way a p bass does... can't seem to find anyone comparing the two.

btw, i did buy myself a T-40 on reverb. natural finish, toaster pickups.. should be here this week. this video made me click the "buy it now" button:

sounds a little "bigger" to me than a P-pickup. would make a hell of a bass for a straight ahead rock player. i wonder where that pickup is placed compared to standard P placement, i think its a touch further up the neck, and since its such a fat humbucker it gives for a really big wide and thick sound, while still not being the heavyweight that the neck pickup on a T-40 is.

i also wonder why he bothered to include the bass cut in those clips..... yuck!

good demo though. it sounds like a really high quality bass, and they sell for $300 often... crazy.

I measured the placement at 28 1/8" for the neck coil and 29 1/8" for the bridge coil.It is the same on my P bass.

maybe it just looked further since the pickup casing is so large. i guess that extra fatness i'm hearing is just the nature of the pickup.

should get my T-40 tomorrow. can't wait to see what i think of it.

A T-45's tone is very clanky-P-bass but with clearer low end. It can also do fat humbucker with the tone controls, one of which controls the second coil of the two coil pickup. I found it to be a very well made bass, as mine was an 82 and looked 3 years old, played wonderfully and sounded as described.

I've had both T-40 and T-45.
The T-45 may have been even heavier!!! Different circuit, has a filter, but only 1 pup.
Sold both because they did not have enough output power to forgive the huge gravity pull.
My Grind 4 is my ultimate keeper Peavey.

humm, player was pretty good on the tight runs, but the main funk section... off the back

I've used the Peavey buckers in 2 of my custom builds - this one called Gilaxis. Switching splits both pu's for numerous tonal options.
