T/S parameters for vintage CTS 8x10 drivers?

They are about the same max loudness. The fanes have more mids but less highs than the neo's. The neo's are great so, don't think that Im changing my mind on them. I just think that the fanes may be the overall best driver to use on it's own and be alittle more berg like. Those berg drivers are tweaked and they hit harder than any of the other drivers and probably have alittle more mids than any of them too. The fact is, the berg is the best overall. The fane drivers would allow you to build a lighter, smaller cab that is affordable and some may prefer them to the berg drivers. If I decide to cut down the 8x10 I'd cut from the bottom.

This LDS 8x10 cab has travelled from one coast to the other to find its new home in Western Canada. I'm so glad you decided to sell it over cutting it down. The final configuration ended up with eight Fliptops Eminence neodynium B810 drivers. The 500 Hz low pass filter, .5 alignment, off axis dispersion system is awesome! Interesting enough, I get feedback if my bass is too close to the side of the cab near the crossover while turned up loud. Some kind of magnetic coupling thing going on maybe? I’m not sure? Tuki cover fits really great. Speaker grill mounting needs a few tweaks as the grill rings a bit when a note punches it hard (four extra screws and stand offs at the center of each edge should take care of this). The crossover was undersized so it shorted out and needed to be rebuilt with larger components (Thanks Andrew and Vancouver Audio Speaker Clinic for taking care of this). I wouldn't say this cab has the vintage tone of a standard Ampeg 810 as it is brighter and more responsive. It has a fuller range than a Bergantino NV610 (which to me has that awesome very nice vintage tone that easily fits in a mix). This LDS cab has a very flat full range response that is not scooped. It is not boomy, not clacky... very nice... very musical. It’s a very hifi clean, responsive cab with awesome note separation, etc. I can hear everything! Plenty of dynamics although very slightly compressed typical of a sealed cab. I couldn’t be happier with it. I tried it out with an early Aguilar DB750 and a MTD 535 (Wenge/Ash/Spalt) bass. I haven’t tried it with an Ampeg V4B yet or an EBS Fafner with a Jazz bass that I often use but I have the feeling it will be perfect here as well. Kudos to Chris and Don for your hard work putting this cab together! Thank you Andrew for making this happen for me!

This thread is a wild ride! Thanks Kringle77 for entertaining reading. A good, realistic look at how confusing speaker swapping is in the real world.

TL;DR for the whole thread:
CTS STV rules. Lets find the modern equivalent for a custom 810.
B810 is too boomy, and past experience with both Webers unimpressive. Used as examples of what we DONT want.
Actually, the Weber 10FL is the best thing ever. Problem solved, get Webers if you want vintage tone.
Special neo B810s come and go with little fanfare, but they may be the best CTS replicas, our original goal.
The original boomy B810s start getting praise. Mass confusion.
Weber 10FH arrive and are now the top choice, but unsure where the goalpost is anymore.
Regret for selling neo B810s, they are retroactively crowned best.
Regular B810s with heavy use of wool highly praised, great speaker now.
Lots of combinations.
Fane 10-125 come from nowhere and take the title away from... I can't remember who.
In the end, nothing as good as a Berg 610, and the CTS is never mentioned again. What 810.

They are made specifically for the Heritage 810e by Eminence, but I believe you can order them through Ampeg's parts department. And no, Eminence doesn't have a speaker like them that they sell themselves. Only the B810, which is not in the same league.

Results are, Fanes being the best off the shelf drivers, the nv610 being the top off the shelf cab. I've never used heritage drivers, I'm sure they sound great but, have that big 500Hz dip like every Svt driver. I can't talk about it but, there is something coming to finally make us sealed guys happy. Don't ask me what, because I'm not allowed to say. Just save your money and be patient.
