Tacky, Obnoxious Sunbursts!

I think there was some bass, mainly available in the UK IIRC, that had some kind of nasty dragon burst that was a yellow, red, and green sunburst. Anyone remember that thing? I feel like it had some absurd combination of pickups but was otherwise shaped like a typical jazz. I know i've seen pics around TB of that thing a few times.

Okay, so the question is, were these gaudy bursts an acquired taste or did you like them from the get go?

I am currently a fan of tasteful bursts where the colors fade into each other gracefully, but I could imagine getting bored with them and developing a taste for the tacky ones -- kinda like graduating to the "hard stuff", seeking out a new thrill.

I remember that one... It was like humbucker in the P slot, then two jazz pickups like the tracktor wasn't it?

I have been thinking about doing a reggae refin for a long while. The problem is I cannot find the correct wood dye that can be nitro'ed over.

I wanted more of a red, yellow middle w. a maple board, and green at the bottom with a pot growth pickguard from greasygroove.com.... but a red/gold/green burst would be cool too.

The sunburst on the SX Ursas is pretty garish:

I don't know about that Ursa 2 you have in the pic, but the Ursa 1 P-bass I got had that same garish looking burst in the pic of it on the Rondo website. Looked exactly like that.
But what I got was actually much nicer:

Goes to show you can't always tell by a website pic exactly how something like that will actually look.

Yeah, that was the pickup setup. If only I could remember the name... they were only a few hundred bucks, too.

It's funny for the longest I didn't like any sunburst axes. Now i have 2 Teles, (1 tri color, 1 two tone) 1 Esquire(tri color) and 2 Strats (1 tri, 1 two) in sunburst and love them all.

I have 4 Fender basses, three Js and a P and they're all black. Quess I haven't picked up the right 'burst bass yet.
