Tacky, Obnoxious Sunbursts!

All I've ever owned is solid colored basses. Had GAS for a Jag but didn't like the Red one.(painted headstock not my style)

Rickenbacker fans tend to hold some disdain for a certain period in the late 1990s when Fireglos were coming out like the one below. They call it "ClownGlo", I guess it was supposed to mimic George Harrison's Ric or something. But RIC got the message loud and clear apparently because Fireglo looks much cooler these days.

I started playing bass in early 60s, so those bursts not only look great to me, but they look the most "right". Heres my 66 p-bass. My 68 p-bass and 69 jazz have identical bursts.

I like most sunbursts except the tobacco version. My favorite is the 1970s Fender called Sienna Sunburst.

I have seen some aweful sunbursts though.

I think there was some bass, mainly available in the UK IIRC, that had some kind of nasty dragon burst that was a yellow, red, and green sunburst. Anyone remember that thing? I feel like it had some absurd combination of pickups but was otherwise shaped like a typical jazz. I know i've seen pics around TB of that thing a few times.

I think that Spear Flextool wins in the Rastaburst best solution category.

My Dean Stylist has its own special kind of gaudyness. The contrast with the white binding makes for an especially nice touch. I have to admit that I love it.

The medium scale neck and the slightly high action make this my favorite practice bass. It's a great bass for me to practice my "Black Dog" on.

My problem with black used as burst on lower end finishes is that in 15 years time, when the cheap varnish has thoroughly yellowed, the black looks like crap.

Me-I'm not much into classic TTB, reminds me of woody station wagons of the 50s. Beauty is in the eye, etc etc.....

Gee, that you guys call obnoxious, I call beautiful. Maybe it's because I was alive when that's what bursts were expected to look like and I'm stuck in the past.

At any rate, old, new, obnoxious or muted I just like bursts.
