Double Bass Tailpiece Pulling From Bass

Hi Eriksd,
To my eye, from the picture- it seems like the end pin assembly is coming out of the bass.
I would be concerned, but don't panic.
The good news is that as long as there is no damage to the block that the end pin goes into, it should be a pretty simple fix- but I would still recommend taking it to a qualified bass luthier. They will likely slack the strings down and remove the end pin assembly to check for damage to either the block or the assembly itself. It is important to have someone experienced do this, as it is possible that the sound post could drop while the string tension is gone.
There is a possibility that the luthier may find issues that need addressing once inside the bass- but again, don't panic.
You will most likely get quite a few opinions on this- please consider all of the advise you get from folks here.
