Takamine B10/TB10 Strings

I recently picked up a Takamine B10.

At the moment it's wearing La Bella 760N Black Nylons which sound fine and I'm very happy with the sound and feel of them. However, the silk on the E string is the wrong side of the nut by about half an inch.

I can live with it, but are there any strings, similar to the 760Ns, that will have enough speaking length to avoid this problem?

Not too many B/TB10 owners here. Congrats on owning a very unique instrument.

I've been running LaBella tapes for several years and have never had this issue. Silk ends right at the nut, and does not extend above the FB. Can't speak for other tape wounds, but if you like the tone, hit the Carvin site and get a new set.

Thanks for your response. So, I wonder if I have an odd set of 760Ns or if I have the tailpiece set up incorrectly?

GHS Tape Wounds have a 38" Silk to Silk winding Length.

Rotosound have an Extra Long set available as well.

Although, I would double check to make sure the string is installed correctly... Keep in mind that the overall string lengths may vary from set to set slightly... So it is possible the silk wrap may be wound a little longer on a set than another...

Thanks again.

I'm beginning to think that the allen screw adjusters on the tailpiece may be too tight and so increasing the break angle over the bridge and so increasing the string length from tailpiece to bridge.

EDIT: I read something about this in a thread here but now can't find it.

EDIT 2: Found it now - at Badassbassplayers - Link Removed

You are saying that the bridge is so high that the angle of the string going over the bridge is curved raising the string higher as it passes over the bridge and past the bridge correct?

Simply take your thumb pressing down on the string where it passes over the bridge / saddle. This will make the string pass over the bridge at a straighter angle.

Ok thanks, but no, that's not what I meant.

The tailpiece has two allen screws which, as they are
tightened, change the angle of the tailpiece in relation to the bridge. The tighter they are then the steeper the break angle. Mine look very tight, so a steep break angle but also slightly more string below the bridge between bridge and tailpiece.

So I'm going to try loosening the allen screws and see if that is enough to get the silk in the correct place without losing good contact at the bridge.

I know these are not tapewounds but I've strung mine up with Thomastik Jazz flats XL scale,JF364,they sound and play great. They have more tension than the standard long scale set and fit the TB-10 perfectly.
These are truly extraordinary instruments, sadly I have not been using mine much and I'm considering posting it for sale.Good luck with yours.

I'm a fan of TI Jazz Flats myself and use them on other basses. I hadn't considered them on the B10. Maybe I'll try them.

Ok thanks to everyone who chipped in with advice here.

I've now got two extra long 760N E strings on their way to me direct from La Bella - probably be ages getting across the Atlantic though - and also in possession of an extra long set of Roto Trubass. We'll see what works best.
