Obviously the audio is not consistent or of great fidelity, but what is audible sounds pretty faithful to the Imagine Project recording of the song, and her voice has a nice quality, good range, and there were no obvious breaks.

BTW - "everyone" wasn't saying that she's a great singer. Some that saw her live were impressed. Troll much?

Absolutely masterful playing, on both cuts. Those kinds of lines, with ample freedom and movement, both rhythmically and harmonically, can ruin a song. Her playing is just magnificent, adding to each song, and making the result better than the sum of the parts. The OP said it VERY well....her maturity and grace go well beyond her years behind the instrument.

And of course, Marcus and Oteil weren't too shabby either. :D

Obviously it's easy...and expected within this forum for us to tunnel down to the bass performance, but I have to say, IMO this is one of those truly rare milestone albums. Amazing music from start to finish. Big huge fat kudos to Herbie Hancock for this one.

This is a fantastic CD! I've listened to it a dozen times already - there is a lot of music that "lasts" on it. It reminds me of that groundbreaking record that quincy jones did back in the late 80s. Great stuff!

The US leg starts next week. However, it might not be the same band or music... my ticket says 'Tribute to Donald Byrd. VERY sloppy information on this, since the ticket was sold as the 'Imagine' tour. Who knows.

I imagine I came late to the party when it comes to being a fan of of Herbie---But that song he did with Tina Turner Edith and The Kingpin just transports me, its like im there in that Jazz club when the "bigman arrives"...That song was really the bridge through which I began to get into Jazz. Every instrument on that cut is just so subdued, sublime, and perfect. Love it when that light guitar flourish hits at about the 3 min mark. Hell I love everything about that cut.



So thank you Herbie! Looking forward to this next set with Tal.

I am always amazed at the stuff Herbie did with Paul Jackson (and Mike Clark). The Headhunters era was brilliant.

If you get the chance listen to Paul Jackson's 'The Funk Stops Here'. Hard to find the album, but I got a copy when it came out - while I was working in Japan.

Anyway, I would love to see Herbie - and Tal - such joy in expression through her playing. I've been listening to her disc again - played it through 3 times in a row and catch something new each time through.

I believe the band will continue unchanged for the 3rd leg of touring in August in the U.S. ("back home" in Tal's parlance). The August dates are still listed on her site, and it would be difficult (not impossible, but certainly not an easy task) to get a new group together and rehearsed on such short notice.
