Tl;dr Stick with super 300 or "upgrade" to origin super vintage?

Alright, as you can see from the title above am having horrible
GAS pains. I only practice through headphones and use IEM for playing at church. (lots of elevation, bethel type stuff so dirt is encouraged) Currently on the board I am running a ME Super 300, cali 76, Russian muff, and Aguilar octamizer. I have a Yyz pedal on the way to use for my distortion sound. (Not sure yet if I'll use it in line with the super 300 or bypass the 300 when it's in use.

I enjoy the sound of the super 300, however it has a bit of a narrow band of "clean" before getting overdriven. My typical clean sound has a bit of drive but isn't full on distorted. I had hoped the boost button would cover that sound for me but found it to muddy up the sound.
This is what led me to search out the Yyz.

due in large part to the quality of the Cali 76 and the plethora of YouTube videos. I have been gassing for a super vintage… the biggest perceived benefit being the cab sim, xlr, and ability to keep it cleaner for a little longer.

for those of you that have used the super vintage and super 300, how much am I actually missing? Is it worth double the price? Am I just enamored by the appearance of the super vintage that bo one would care about but me?

The original BassRig thread has a few people who have used both, like here Origin Effects BASSRIG

I'm not sure how the clean range of the SV compares with the 300 though, as the SV still has a limited range before starting to breakup.

Cab sim is very nice, indeed. We live in lucky times as bass players; tons of great options out there for you, depending on what sort of sound you are looking for, and how much you are willing to spend

Do you find that it muddies the sound at all over essentially just the preamp sound? Not sure that I have seen any demos of the super vintage that specifically compare the di tone with cab sim to the non cab sim "out"

It's definitely possible to overdo it, and not all sims are of equal quality, but in general, I find having that "cab" sound makes my DI line sound and feel way more like I want it to. Even a tube preamp warming up my sound, by itself, isn't really enough for what I'd prefer to hear.

Me neither. I don't want tweeter highs and super dub lows going to the house.

Well, it seems like growing favor for further consideration of the super vintage. Trying to keep the pedal board to a very small size so opting for a separate ir loader will be less than ideal.

anyone out there in talkbass land used both and happen to have any recordings side by side?

In the end, with all this stuff, you are likely to be the only person to ever notice any changes, especially if it's just different flavours of SVT-style sounds. But hey, the Super Vintage sure has a nice aesthetic going on.

not all of us here are enabling wankers ,as a matter of fact, some of us get physically ill when we hear a grown men talking about GAS and almost pissing themselves because they can't handle not having this new thing that clever marketing has them thinking they need it…
