I understand. I've had 4-5 Rics and now have a 4001 v63. They are quite inconsistent basses, and I would never buy one without playing it first.
I would not make any unusual financial moves to get one, though. A Jazz can do a pretty good "Ric", (ask Geddy) but a Rick is not going to do a very good "Jazz." I am not one who will say that a Ric is a "one trick pony" but if I only had one bass, it would be a Jazz, not a Ric. A Jazz, a Ric and a Stingray pretty much cover my wants, though.
Take your time and enjoy the shopping. Maybe you'll find a real buy or super unusual one that just begs you to go crazy with the credit card, but unless you do, Ric's do tend to have a pretty steady re-sale price on the used market for each type, vintage and version.
