Talk to me about the Ampeg PF-50T

So I'm looking into low watt heads to run with two 210AV cabs and ran across Ampeg's PF-50T.

I play everything from punk rock (three piece not that loud) to blues, to upright bass gigs (rockabilly). My tone varies from gritty overdriven tone to clean round fat tone.


Will this head provide the volume I need for medium size shows (all shows have full PA support)

Right now I have my Micro VR settings as follows:

Gain: 1:00
Bass: 11:00
Mids: 12:00
Treble: 12:00
Volume: 11:00

That's for the punk band at shows with two 210AV cabs. Those shows need the highest volume and overdriven tone..
For the blues shows the gain gets turned down for a round full tone.

I'm thinking you might be OK with the PF50T. That might not give you a lot of headroom but I think you could be able to play cleanly at that volume. A little close to call 100% though.

With full support, you should be just fine! Unfortunately you wont know until you try. It is an expensive amp for how many watts you get, but it has some good tricks up its sleeve. 4 ohm capable, multiple XLR outputs, GLORIOUS TUBE TONE. If its not loud enough with both of those cabs, you may want to look into something more efficient. I have zero experience with the 210AV cabs, but i run a single SVT212AV with the PF50 and its fairly loud for medium gigs (~220 people)

Good to hear! For the punk group I don't need headroom and they are the loudest I will play. Any other group will work easily.

That is true. I'm missing playing through a full tube amp (used to tour with an Ampeg B25B which was loud enough for most indoor stages. So I'm excited about the PF-50T working out for me.

The V4B would be ideal but it's too big to fit in my Yaris with an upright and two 210av cabs

Yep, I'd say it's about dead on to the sound of the V4B. And it's definitely way smaller. And really, for some punk rock grind at volumes that won't piss off sound techs and cause firings everywhere you go, I think it's a way better idea to crank a small amp's power tubes into a small cab. And...

Although I'm sure I could make it fit. I used to carry an old V4B and 810 in a 2-door 76 Toyota Corolla

I would imagine the PF-50 is as loud as the B25B. BTW, your old B25B is alive and well. It will be making music Friday night at an outdoor gig. It gets very loud with 2 Bill Fitzmaurice cabinets.

Ben! I'm glad the B25B still alive a well. I sure do miss that amp.

I'm looking forward to getting a PF-50T in the near future!

if you've got the sensitivity for that 50 watts, I don't see why not. with a couple of BFM cabs, which are designed to maximize sensitivity, I don't see why it wouldn't be enough.

I think that if you were pleased with the output of the Micro-VR, then you would also be pleased with the output of the 50T. It pairs up really nicely with the 210AV's!

I didn't mean to say that you should get them, just that a couple jack 12s and a PF50, or even 20, would kick louder than one would think.

If the sensitivity of each cabinet is 98 db, that'd give you 101db of sensitivity. Should be enough, and it seems reasonable for 4-10s to have about that much sensitivity.

While I'm utterly delighted with my own rig that meets all my needs, I see the addition of a PF50t and and one or two 210AVs /or a PF112HLF would be like hot peanut butter fudge on my ice cream.
