O it wasnt from right hand technique. It was from when he pressed the string down to the fret. It tinged and made a clanky tinny noise, the tape muffled it. Sorry I wasnt clear before.

Yes, I can get that to happen if my left hand smacks the string down too hard. Lightening up on the left hand attack eliminates it for me.

Thats the description of my clanking I was trying to describe earlier. I was unrelated to my right hand picking/fingering. Simply pressing the string, usually frets 12-20, on the E and A string would cause a clank. I had it initially on my MIA Jazz but backed the truss rod off a bit and eliminated it. I had it on an SX but thats a whole different story.

Then it's just bad left hand technique. You can press the string in a way that it won't clank when it touches the fret. Takes practice.

OK, so it's a crutch to cover for bad technique. How about people who use a hair scrunchy to make up for the fact that their muting technique isn't good enough to let them play 6 and 7 string basses without such artificial muting tricks?

Is that any better?

I suppose what ever gets the job done, is OK. I just personally find it a lot easier to use good technique.

Well, Link Removed uses a hair scrunchy or something on his neck, but I don't think anyone will be criticizing his muting technique anytime soon.
