Are they brighter than Chrome flatwounds ?

This is a very common mistake, one which I made too. Rotosound tapewounds are in fact roundwounds wrapped in nylon tape. I was told this by Rotosound.

I picked up a set of D'addairo tapes a few weeks ago. I had to have a bad one replaced (E) since it had a knot/bump on the tape in the plucking area on the string. BTW Great CS for D'A on this.
I am a long time chromes player and have thought about tapes since they are smooth and feel nice so I did. I strung up my 84' SQ bullet and man they feel great and sound awesome love the tension. My question is what is the life like on tapes? Doe's the tape break up or wear out? I know chromes last for years and have never changed a set yet.
Then I guess "TRU BASS 88 (Black Nylon Flatwound)" on their website really should say "Black Nylon Roundwound"
So, now another question.
Who makes, where's the best 5'er tape wounds to be had?
links....... If possible please. I wanna grab a couple of 5 string sets of tapes.
I like Fender tapes, but haven't seen a 5'er set.

D'addario tapes say 'flat wound under the tape' on their advertising.

Somebody needs to pop open a D'Addario tapewound string to find out.
I would be very surprised if there's a flat under there.
There are roundwound strings under the tape...trust me.
