Tapewound curious

I'm thinking that Tapewounds (a type of string I have no experience with) might compliment my Jack Casady really well given the unique tone of each.

I'm considering the D'Addario ETB92 Long Scale

Anyone use Tapewounds on their JC?

Any fitment issues?

General opinions?

What's the actual distance on that bass from where the ball end is seated to the tuner side of the nut?

I don't have it with me here. Also, I replaced the factory bridge with a Hipshot SuperTone because the Gibson-style 3-point bridge drove me nuts to adjust.

When you get a chance, take those two measurements I asked for.

As long as ball-to-nut is less than 37" and ball-to-E post is more than 37", the "long scale" D'A Black Nylons will fit fine.

E-ball to E-nut is 35.75" and to the E-tuner is 38".

I have put tapewounds on a couple of basses. I like the tone and the feel. They may not be for everyone - it's an expensive experiment, but you won't know if you like them until you try them yourself. BTW don't be taking them on and off frequently, or removing the set to try on another instrument. Too many times and you'll find the cloth tape starts to unwind and there's no recovering from that.

I really like Fender tape wounds. They have a certain texture that is different from others. Maybe give them a try

I've been trying tapewound too, a set of Alexandrias on my Mark Bass Gloxy turned out Perfect. My Jack Casady (one of my few remaining 4 stringers)
has now got LaBella white tapes (because the nut slots were already a bit widened for downtuning to D standard, an experiment sounded Great with nickle rounds) the G is 55 or something fat, although the tension is normal. I usually preferred roundwound in the past for that bass it's good to animate the body with some brightness, but the white tapes are a very good vintage sounding option.
Have you tried Cobalt flats?

It's funny, I read someone's opinion that Alexandria's eyes are too pretty for acting, they are distracting. I don't mind being distracted for art.

I have those D'Addario tape wounds on two of my basses and they sound great. The LTD is 34" scale and I have the Long Scale set. The Jaguar is 32" scale so I have a set of the Medium Scale on that. As far as the JC bass which I had one years back, the Long Scale set should fit fine. Long Scale D'Addario string sets are typically for 34" scale basses. (note, if the colored string wraps on the LTD look close to the nut, that bass is rear string through)

I have D'Addario black tapes on my Ibanez SR1350B. They have slightly less tension than the Medium XLs the bass came with, and have a slightly percussive sound, but they feel and play great. Obviously they don't have the zing of rounds but they have a very solid tone with more highs than flat wounds. The only issue I encountered was in the break in period, when the D string stuck in the nut slot and released unexpectedly, dropping me about an interval. This can be an issue because the tape wrap makes them slightly sticky in the nut. Not an issue once they are broken in.

Also, if you play finger style and with a light touch, they seem to last forever.

I'm trying something different because I try to make each bass unique. The Jack Casady is already unique but I currently have Rotosound Monel flats that I honestly like but I feel like my P-bass with La Bella bridge cables already covers some of that ground already.

I have had Roto 88 tapes on my JCB since the day after I bought it 8 years ago . Also with a supertone bridge . They will never be changed . It is the go to bass in my studio for recording . Occasionally take it out to play but its home is in the studio .
